A few key items bring a hotel room to life.
And it is difficult sometimes, taking standard colors and perfect right angles and turning them into the place you are to exist---which is to say, read your books, write your letters, eat your meals, take your rest.
The five-star generification of home.
What to many is a place to choose your colors, I relate to pastel brown as a preference above pastel pink. What to others is a window to grow your plant, mine is a view of the consistently unfamiliar sides of buildings, house tops or the occasional mountainous horizon. What to a few is a space of family and utter self, well...I settle for the space.
Space to open a suitcase comfortably, piles of wrinkled tank tops and dirty jeans. Or space to sleep and stretch these legs, first thing; tearing up the sheets. Space to fill a salt bath, foggy mirrors and Neroli oil steam. Space to let the dogs off their chains, to play like puppies again---I see a dance studio. All I need is space.
And a few key items to bring it to life.
Stargazer lilies thicken the air with their provocative pink stench. Tapestries---blue, black, and pink. Scarves to wind around the wrists or neck. Candles strobing shadows on pastel brown walls. Music. Music. Music.
An avocado ripens someplace...
This is what I call home in Columbus, OH. I like touring. Always have.
